High Prairie Forest Products, a division of West Fraser, located in High Prairie, Alberta is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the following Full Time position:

SAFETY RESOURCE & ENVIRONMENTAL COORDINATOR

The Safety Resource & Environmental Coordinator will be responsible to serve as a resource for the High Prairie Forest Product’s leadership group in the:

  • Management, monitoring and development of the Divisional Safety Plan & Environmental Plan – Compliance calendars, etc
  • Management and initial data entry into the West Fraser Safety Incident Tracking System (SITS)
  • Communicate environmental performance through oral and written reports
  • Support of the front line supervisors and leadership group in incident investigation & lockout verification
  • Management of the safety systems and both on site policies, rules and regulations and applicable occupational health and safety legislation
  • To administer and chair the monthly safety committee meeting
  • To assist in the monthly industrial rail inspection (Training will be provided)
  • To assist the front line supervisors in the standard operating procedure reviews

This position requires the following skills and abilities:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills and good team building skills.
  • Goal oriented, detail oriented, and interested in advancement and professional growth.
  • Capability to work in an unsupervised position effectively.
  • Have a fundamental understanding or a willingness to learn Occupational Health and Safety Legislation, the corporate safety program for West Fraser Mills and relevant supporting legislation (i.e. Safety Codes, fire codes and Building Codes)
  • Should be familiar with or have a willingness to learn effective electronic communication systems (i.e. Microsoft Office Applications:  Word, Excel, Power Point and Publisher)
  • Should be willing to work flexible hours and have a willingness to travel for training, information sharing and in development of the safety program for the division.
  • Must have demonstrated strong initiative and work habits.
