Weyerhaeuser’s Grande Prairie Lumbermill is currently hiring for a Maintenance Supervisor. This position requires a person who can contribute, grow, think and create in a fast moving environment. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of Maintenance Supervisory experience, preferably within a Sawmill Environment, along with a strong Mechanical and Leadership background. This position will occupy the weekend day shift from Friday through Monday.

Safety is a top priority for Weyerhaeuser. Our Grande Prairie Lumber Sawmill Maintenance Supervisor will be reporting directly to the Greenside Maintenance Superintendent  and will be responsible for managing the mechanical maintenance activities in the Sawmill and Planer mill during scheduled weekend downtime maintenance windows.

  Key Functions:

  • Support Weyerhaeuser’s safety values as both a leader and an employee.
  • Provide day to day leadership for mechanical maintenance activities through the sawmill during the downtime windows.
  • Responsible for Maintenance results including safety, work standards, costs and reliability.
  • Develop and execute plans to continuously improve maintenance and production results.
  • Lead Maintenance efforts throughout the downtime window in order to maximize operational start ups and product goal rates.

Qualifications

  • Support a safe work environment through daily safety interaction, daily safety discussions during Maintenance cross shift meetings, safety observations during downtime windows.
  • Enforce all site policies and regulations.
  • Cross shift with operations Coordinator – prioritize any break in work with the weekend Maintenance Coordinator in an effort to maximize production for the next scheduled shift.
  • Overall weekend Coordination/Contact – Mechanical, Welding, Clean up, Projects, Safety, Contractors, etc.
  • Provide support to the Maintenance Team Safety Plan by ensuring progress against the plan.
  • Attend weekly meeting with the Maintenance Scheduler to assist in coordinating clean up and spark watch resourcing prior to the weekend downtime work in order to avoid any potential conflicts.
  • Participation in the safety investigation process and manage follow up items as a result.
  • Work with the Maintenance Team Leaders to Manage all team safety activities and safety tracking – Monthly safety activities, safe practices, Radar, Hot work, training, PAI, etc.
  • Manage the available weekend Maintenance resources between the sawmill and planner mill to maximize efficiencies  in order to meet budget requirements for overtime, contractor usage and spending.
  • Manage weekend cleanup activities in order to maximize their efficiencies prior to hot work and the next scheduled operating shift and to minimize the impact to the mechanical work.
  • Manage spark watch coverage outages.
  • Ensure Maintenance work flow processes are followed during the downtime window – notifications, sign outs, pick shelf, clean up after jobs, etc.
  • Ensure a smooth transition between the Maintenance Downtime window and operational start up of the equipment.
  • Effectively communicate weekend work order completion information and provide a weekly report.
