Role

Reporting to the Forest Tenure Specialist, you will be the sole point of contact for related GIS products and services in the Forest Industry Development Branch. You will be responsible for conducting and coordinating database development and maintenance, complex GIS analyses, and for providing industry updates and policy recommendations to Section Managers, the Executive Director, the ADM, the forest industry and the public. Duties will include, but are not limited to:

– Preparing specialized databases or GIS products for the Branch,

– Ensuring assigned projects are completed and the associated risks (e.g. data limitations, analysis assumptions, proposed management strategies) have been appropriately assessed,

– Developing, implementing, and maintaining standards, specifications, quality control processes, and methodologies of all spatial information within the Branch,

– Maintaining Forest Tenure mapping resources and data bases, and

– Conducting analyses and exploring alternative means to implementing the Timber Damage Assessment Fee-in-Lieu system and the current timber dues system.

Overall, this position is an important technical resource working within the Forest Tenure and Fibre Management Section of our Branch, and we are looking for someone with an expertise in GIS to assist senior management in understanding the implications of conflicting land-use demands on Alberta’s forestlands and the implications to Forest Tenure holders.

Qualifications

A two year diploma in a directly related field such as GIS or Natural Resource Management with a focus on GIS plus two years’ related experience is required. Please note, directly related education or experience will be considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate GIS experience in a forestry or natural resource management related field.

Salary

$2,164.36 to $2,834.61 bi-weekly ($56,490 to $73,983 per annum)
