JUNIOR PROJECT ENGINEER

Slave Lake Pulp, a modern 240,000 TPY BCTMP mill, located 2.5 hours northwest of Edmonton, Alberta is currently looking to hire a full time Jr. Project Engineer. SLP is located 20 kms east of the town of Slave Lake, Alberta which boasts the second largest lake in the province, renowned for its sports fishing and stretches of natural sandy beaches. The town of 7,000 has all the amenities of a larger center yet maintains the outdoor lifestyle of a small community.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Engineering Superintendent, the Jr. Project Engineer is responsible for working as part of the Engineering and Maintenance team to support mill projects, upgrades and modification work. The candidate will apply, develop and manage engineering procedures, systems and standards to pulp mill projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Mechanical or Civil Engineer in Training or P.Eng;
  • Experience working on an active construction site or in a heavy industrial environment considered an asset;
  • Candidates with alternate qualifications and applicable work experience will be considered;
  • Working knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings and specifications and building materials and required standards applicable to discipline;
  • Effective oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong organization and documentation skills;
  • Software proficiencies in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, MS Project, Solid Works; and,
  • Valid Driver’s License and a reliable vehicle are required.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The following duties and responsibilities are related to projects of varying size and complexity.
  • Conduct field site inspections to ensure QA/QC, safety and environmental requirements are met;
  • Maintain and updated standards and specifications, as required;
  • Research and recommend solutions to design issues;
  • Act as a contractor site contact and supervisor;
  • Maintain project schedules, track budgets and establish work scopes;
  • Maintain and update project drawings and files;
  • Obtain quotes for the procurement of materials and services;
  • Assist with the review of field change requests from contractors;
  • Prepare drawings and sketches to support fabrication work as required;
  • Understand and perform document control in accordance with policy and procedures including creation of Project and asset files;
  • Other duties, as required
